Jinan - girl

There was a huge WalMart. We had a few great meals in a veg place - you choose your skewers of veg and then they're turned into an amazing soup of goodness. Otherwise, Jinan seems to be the world's biggest construction site - complete with dust, fumes and noise.

We came to Jinan to satisfy C's hunger for small Chinese villages so early one day we got up and braved the long-distance bus station. We ended up being pleasantly surprised. We asked for a ticket, were given said ticket and were escorted to the bus. Once on the bus we assumed we'd either see, or be told, where to get off. Nope. Neither. Luckily C asked just as we were about to drive past the tiny turning in the road we needed. Talk about good timing! So we walked 2km in the mid-day heat to this small village where we were charged entry. I have no idea how they rationalised the entry fee but it certainly wasn't worth it, for me anyway. C was pretty happy as he got to light a load of bangers outside a temple. Apparently it made the day rank as highly as our wedding day. I'm such a lucky girl! Only other thing of note in the village was the eating of scorpions.

Otherwise, Jinan offered little in the way of fun or interest. The city square was pretty impressive - people flying kites with lights on them, convincing me they might be UFOs and kids handling nunchucks like Jackie Chan.
